'One-legged boy' of HUST develops intelligent prosthetic leg | 华科“单腿男孩”研发智能假肢

  On Sept. 7, 2006, Sun Xiaojun, a 20-year-old from the Gelao ethnic group in Guizhou, went to Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) by himself on crutches.
  2006年9月7日,20岁的贵州仡佬族小伙子孙小军一个人拄着双拐来到华中科技大学。
  Sixteen years later, he founded BionicM that uses cutting-edge technologies to solve the problems of conventional prosthetic legs and create high-performance limbs.
  16年过去了,孙小军创办了健行仿生公司,并通过尖端技术解决传统假肢存在的问题,研发出高性能假肢。

  "I can walk 30,000 steps on one charge of electricity," said Sun. Nobody would notice that he is wearing a prosthesis without rolling up his right trouser leg. Now he walks thousands of steps every day and can use his leg for a week without recharging.
  “充一次电可走3万步。”孙小军说,不撸起右腿裤管几乎看不出来他戴着假肢,现在每天行走几千步,充一次电可使用一周时间。
  The intelligent prosthetic leg that Sun is wearing comes from BionicM. He said that a sensing system determines how much force the leg needs to function properly. For instance, more force has to be sent to the "muscles" to go up and down stairs than to walk on a flat road. In addition, the prosthetic leg can also identify the person's pace of walk and the length of stride, so as to make walking more natural.
  孙小军穿戴的智能假肢出自健行仿生公司。孙小军介绍,智能假肢通过感知系统可以知道要给腿部多少合适的力量,比如,和走平路相比,上下楼梯需要给“肌肉”更多力量。另外,智能假肢也能识别使用者步行速度、步幅大小等,让行走更加轻便。
