Beijing Opera 'Mother' performed at China Arts Festival | 京剧《母亲》亮相中国艺术节
"Mother," a Beijing opera performed by Wuhan Beijing Opera Theater, was staged at the 13th China Arts Festival held at Wuqing Movie Theater in Tianjin on Aug. 27. The opera is a strong contender for the Wenhua Prize, China's top award for stage performances.
8月27日，由武汉京剧院有限责任公司创作演出的京剧《母亲》在天津武清影剧院亮相第十三届中国艺术节，参与我国舞台艺术领域的政府最高奖文华奖的角逐。
"Mother" revolves around Ge Jianhao, a revolutionary and feminist pioneer in the early 20th century. Born in Hunan, she was foot-bound in early childhood. In 1919, the 54-year-old Ge traveled to France to learn French and take part in revolutionary activities. Influenced by her, Ge's son Cai Hesen and daughter Cai Chang, along with their spouses Xiang Jingyu and Li Fuchun, all went on the path for the revolutionary cause of China.
《母亲》是以葛健豪的人生创作的京剧，讲述百年前这位革命先辈的故事。葛健豪来自湖南深山，从小缠足。1919年，54岁的她前往法国学习法语，并且参与革命活动。这位伟大女性，培养了儿子蔡和森、女儿蔡畅，还影响了向警予、李富春等我党早期领导人。

Starring the national first-class actress Liu Ziwei, the opera is a new one combining symphony, chorus, dance and even acrobatics.
《母亲》由国家一级演员刘子微主演, 融合了交响乐、歌队、舞蹈，甚至杂技。
The scene "Pursuing Education" depicts how Ge tries to persuade the authorities to allow her to go to school by showing she could do rope jumping. Liu, playing the role of Ge, performed it flawlessly on stilts which amazed the audience. At the curtain call, the audience stood up and applauded, reluctant to leave after the curtain fell. Li Yong, an audience member and a descendant of Ge, expressed his appreciation. "I'm very grateful to the opera. I hope it will reach more young people!"
“求学”一折，小脚老太为上学不惜跳绳证明自己，观众看到了饰演葛健豪的演员刘子微的不易，刘子微踩着跷还能跳绳。谢幕时，许多观众都站起身来鼓掌，大幕落下仍不肯离开。葛健豪的后人李勇表示，剧目令人震撼。“我非常感谢武汉京剧院，希望这部剧能让更多年轻观众看到！”
