At the opening ceremony of the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games on the evening of March 4, 90 performers, including hearing-impaired ones, put on a show called "Winter Paralympic Waltz." Among the 13 dance teachers who provided live guidance for those with hearing impairment, two were from Wuhan — Yang Shan from Wuhan No. 1 School for the Deaf and the Mute and Li Zhen from the no. 2 school.

To prepare for the show, the performers and teachers practiced for more than two months. "We usually practiced from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.," said Li. After Feb. 20, they even had to get up in the small hours for the field rehearsal in the National Stadium.
The dance routine required the performers to lie down on wheeled stools. This proved to be a great challenge for them, but none gave up.
Li said: "Shen Chen, the director of the opening ceremony, gave a thumbs-up to all the performers, saying they achieved a goal that was next to impossible."
