The century-old clock of the Jianghan Customs House has witnessed the great changes of Wuhan ever since it was made in the U.S. in 1923 and shipped to Wuhan.
The clock was installed by the Wuhan Hengdali Watch Company and has been maintained by the company ever since. The traditional 23.1-meter mechanical clock was replaced in 2000 by a GPS electronic clock to ensure accurate time and simplify maintenance. In turn, that clock was replaced in October 2022 by a Beidou atomic clock which ensures an error of less than one second in 3 billion years.
